Sirach 6:14 (Part 1)

Faithful friends are a sturdy shelter; whoever finds one finds a treasure.

This past Saturday my best friend and Kiara’s godfather, Jeremy Santos, was ordained to the priesthood for the Diocese of Sacramento. The Saturday before that another good friend, Matthew Murray, was ordained to the diaconate for the Diocese of Oakland. Yesterday we attended Jeremy’s first mass, where Matthew served as a deacon.

It has been quite the journey over the past decade or so, growing and walking alongside with an amazing community of other young people committed to seeking and serving the Lord. Yesterday I was reminded that I am truly blessed to have found the friends who I now consider family. Despite having been abroad on mission for almost six years, the bonds formed and crazy adventures we’ve lived together have helped us to remain close despite distance or not gathering as frequently as when we were younger.

*Just a fraction of our friends who have literally traveled the world together to encounter the Lord and serve his people.

Who would have imagined that a bunch of crazy kids – would now be wives, husbands, priests, deacons, professionals… Grown ups!
*A post on community and friendship would not be complete without mention of my mission community – so stay tuned for Part 2 of this blog! 😉
